Important Issues With Wireless Video Baby Monitors

Ah! So Peaceful.

Monitor Your Wonderful Bundle
Of Joy From Multiple Areas Of
Your Home With The Excellent
Choices In Wireless Baby Monitors

It is getting easier and easier to watch over your baby without sacrificing comfort and security.

The wireless video baby monitor was a significant advance over the wired version since it gave far greater physical mobility to parents and care givers.

But there are still a couple of troublesome problems that you can have if you are not informed and prepared:

  1. Frequency Selection

2.4 GHz is the most commonly used frequency for video baby monitors today. Most cell phones use the 2.4 GHz band so it has become over crowded.

2.4 GHz phones do interfere with 2.4 GHz baby monitors. When the phone rings or is in use, the video image may suffer from added static.

Another source of interference is a home router (Wi-Fi computer network).

All this means is that you need to determine the frequencies used by devices in your home before buying a wireless baby monitor.

Don't forget devices like microwave ovens, wireless headphones, and wireless speaker systems.

  2. 900 MHz bandwidth

A few years ago, the 900 MHz bandwidth was the most used frequency for multiple wireless devices.

This use declined with the emergence of the 2.4 GHz frequency.

If you have serious problems in your home with interference due to 2.4 GHz frequency devices, then look for a video baby monitor that uses the 900 MHz bandwidth.

  3. Channels

Don't mistake channels with frequencies. Devices may have multiple channels, but these channels operate on the same frequency.

If you have a video baby monitor with multiple cameras, you would use different channels for each camera.

The Huge Benefits Of Using Video Baby Monitors

Yeah! He's Asleep!

Increase Your Peace Of Mind
And Your Productivity Around
The Home With The Effective
Use Of Video Baby Monitors

Your baby is the most precious being in your life. And since babies can’t still tend for themselves, it is your responsibility to give the love, care and security that they need.

But we all know that even though they are your top most priority, there are still other things in the priority list that need your attention.

So how do you go on with your daily activities without sacrificing the quality of security, love, and care that you need to give your baby?

You can use video baby monitors.

Old Type Baby Monitors

The original type baby monitors made use of a simplex transmitter and receiver system.

In the baby’s room, a transmitter device with microphone was installed while the parents had a receiver device with a speaker.

Any sound the baby made in the room was transmitted directly to the device held by the parents.

If something was wrong, the parents definitely knew about it.

New Modern Video Baby Monitors

But baby monitors have already come a long way.

Today, different video baby monitors have been developed which make use not only of sounds but of images as well.

Video baby monitors make use of cameras instead of just the usual transmitter with microphone device.

A camera or a number of cameras are installed in the baby’s room and live video feed are transmitted to a TV or LCD receiver.

These video devices can either be wired or wireless devices.

  1. Wired
The most basic application of a wired video baby monitor is to provide live video feed from the room of the baby to the room of the parents.

This is most useful during the sleeping hours of the parents.

With the video baby monitor installed, you can continually monitor your baby without having to stand up and going to your baby in the next room.

  2. Wireless
The wireless video baby monitor however has a larger scope of use.

Since it is wireless, you can go anywhere around the house while bringing an LCD monitor to keep track of the status of your baby.

Also, you want your monitor to have a belt clip so you can walk around with it.

You can be in the kitchen or in the garden and still be able to keep an eye over the baby since you are not limited with a wire.

You may want to have an extra camera (an additional charge) so you can monitor your baby in different rooms with complete convenience.

It is important to know though that these devices also have a limit to their range.

Look For These Special Features

  • Night vision capability
-1- Works when lights are off
-2- Dark rooms not a problem
  • Baby cam feature
-1- Used with the Internet. With clicks on the computer the baby cam can be accessed anywhere and anytime.
  • This is most useful for those parents who have to go to the office and leave the baby with a babysitter or nanny. Even at work, you can keep on monitoring the well-being of your baby.

Baby Halloween Costumes

Anybody with a baby should be thinking about baby Halloween costumes in the fall. It is great to be a new parent and discover that you can become a kid again along with your own child! We are not talking here about dressing up your baby at home like a doll, taking pictures and exclaiming over how cute he or she looks. Not only that, anyway. The most fun thing you can do at Halloween is to dress up with your baby and go out!

If you have not been trick or treating since you were in grade school, wouldn’t you like to try it again? It is probably best not to go out alone with your baby because people could realize the candy is for you – or anyway they will hope you are not feeding all that stuff to a tiny baby – so it may seem a little  strange. You could trust that most people will be too distracted by the cuteness of the baby to care, but then they may also be too distracted to remember to give you the candy at all. The best thing, if you can arrange it, is to go out with some small children of an age big enough to walk. If you don’t have any of your own, find friends who do and go trick or treating with them and their kids. You will love it!

You can buy baby costumes for Halloween and parties but check out the fabric as it is often synthetic which may give your baby a rash and may be flammable too. It may be better to create the main body part of the costume yourself from a piece of clothing that the baby already owns and add some bought accessories. Do not forget to make the costume appropriate for the weather. You will want your baby’s hands and feet to be covered if it is cold, and rain protection may be necessary. In warm weather you will not want a heavy costume that will make your baby uncomfortably hot, but you could carry extra layers in case the weather changes.

You do not have to dress your baby as anything scary, like a ghost or a witch. You can take something like a fuzzy bodysuit or a pair of baby’s pajamas and create an animal costume from that. Maybe you have something with a tiger print, but it does not have to be so exotic. A plain white suit could be made into a rabbit costume with the addition of ears, whiskers and a little white tail.

Even better, why not dress yourself up to match or complement your baby’s costume? That way you really get to be a kid again! You could be a mother kangaroo with your baby kangaroo in a pouch, or if both parents are going you could be a whole family of lions or bears. Or how about a butterfly and a baby caterpillar? The opportunities for creating fun and original parent and baby Halloween costumes are infinite!

History of Baby Diapers

Baby diapers are most certainly big business in the United States and all other western countries. Disposable diapers are what most people use and there is a never-ending market for them. Most parents find them much more convenient than cloth diapers. You can clean up easily without having to launder the diaper.

Disposable diapers were first seen in stores in the  1940s, but they took a while to catch on. They were too expensive for most people and those who could afford them often had servants to do the baby care and laundering so they did not see the benefit. Also, the early disposable diapers were just in one size that did not always fit the baby well, so they leaked worse than cloth diapers.

In the 1950s, when disposable diapers started to be manufactured in different sizes, they became more popular with the rich. It was not until the 1970s that the price of disposable diapers (along with many other plastic-based products) dropped to the point where they became affordable for most people. People very quickly found how convenient they were and it was soon considered very old-fashioned and even unhygienic to use cloth diapers.

Disposable diapers have continued to improve every decade, becoming lighter weight, more absorbent and better fitting. Different styled diapers for boys and girls appeared, they were given cute designs, and diapers became more environmentally friendly due to customer demand. There are now several large manufacturers, all claiming to make the best disposable diaper for your baby.

In the late 1990s and 2000s there has been a swing back towards cloth diapers. This has come about for many reasons. One is the increasing interest in the environment. People are concerned at the way our garbage is increasing. They do not always think of the environmental cost of laundering cloth diapers, and the electricity, water and detergent that it uses.

Cloth diapers have changed a lot in the last 50 years. The cotton used these days is treated so that it stays much softer and is easier to wash than it ever used to be. They come in different colors now with cute patterns. Diaper pins have gotten more cute too, and many cloth nappies do not even need them, because they fasten with buttons or velcro.

Even with cloth diapers you do have a disposable section which is the liner. This means you do not have to deal with big mess on the diaper itself. Another advantage of cloth diapers is that children who wear them will usually toilet train earlier because they can feel the unpleasantness of being wet in a cloth diaper. On the other hand, a small baby in a cloth diaper is more likely to wake when it is wet for this same reason.

Cloth diapers are also less irritating to the skin for most babies, and as many babies these days develop skin problems like eczema, this can be important for parents in their choice of baby diapers.

Baby Car Seats

Although parents take so much trouble to choose a high quality baby car seat to carry their precious bundle of joy in the car, one of the saddest aspects of child safety on the roads is that in most cases they do not fit the seat correctly. According to a study by the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) almost 80% of child safety seats are badly fitted or misused.

The most common errors are harness straps that were loose and safety belt attachments that are incorrectly fastened. These mistakes are defined by the NHTSA as ‘critical’ because there is a possibility of serious injury in the event of an accident. So most baby safety seats are not nearly as safe as parents think, and many babies are at risk.

How then can you be sure that your baby will be safe in the car?

First, make sure that you are using the right type of seat for your baby’s age and weight, and that it is facing the right way. Some multi-purpose seats can be fitted to face either forward or backward and the fitting will change as your child grows. Babies under one year old and under 20 lb in weight should have rear-facing seats. But note that all child safety seats, whether forward or backward facing, should be fitted on  the back seat of the car.

It is also possible to buy infant seats for young babies. These are designed to be rear-facing only, so you will need a new seat when your child gets bigger. However, they will be a better fit for your newborn baby and they are easier to store and carry, being smaller. You can carry your sleeping baby around in his or her safety seat.

If you prefer, you can buy a convertible seat that can be adapted to fit babies and toddlers. Convertible seats are larger and heavier and you are more likely to leave them in the car all of the time. They must be fitted in the rear facing position for young babies and then when the child turns one or weighs over 20 lb, the seat can be turned around to face the front. A convertible seat will usually hold children up to 40 lb.

But whatever type of seat you select, the most important point is to fit it correctly. You must read both the instructions that come with the car seat and the owner’s manual for your car. First, make sure that you have the seat firmly and correctly buckled into the car. Then make sure you know how to fit and secure the harness straps that hold your baby inside the seat.

Don’t guess – have your baby’s seat checked by a qualified technician if you are not 100% sure that you have it correct. US visitors can go to http://www.seatcheck.org to find a child safety seat inspection center near you.

If you are considering buying a used seat or accepting one as a gift, consider the age and condition of the seat. Seats that have been used by several children in a family, or seats that have been in an accident, may be worn or broken and not safe for a baby any more. The label should tell you the date of manufacture and you should not use a seat that is more than five years old. Make sure that you have the manufacturer’s instructions and that all the parts are included. If the instructions have been lost, you may be able to find a copy online, but make sure you have the right manual for your exact safety seat. If not, do not use the seat, even if it was a gift. It is not worth taking the chance.

Above all remember that in an accident, your child’s life depends on the baby car seat.

What is Baby Eczema?

Baby eczema is becoming more and more common in western societies. If your baby has it, you are not the only parent to be wondering what to do. It can be very upsetting to see your baby so uncomfortable. If you are worried about your baby’s eczema, you should mention it to your doctor or to the staff at any baby care clinic that you attend.

What Is Eczema?

Ezcema is an irritating skin rash that your baby will want to scratch. It can start at any age, but most commonly first appears between the ages of 2 months and 24 months. It usually appears on the head (cheeks, forehead and scalp), although babies may have it on other parts of the body too.

Eczema is believed to be caused by the baby not being able to tolerate some elements in food or the environment. Infant eczema is on the increase and most people believe this is as result of more pollution and chemicals entering our bodies in our modern industrial societies. There also seems to be a hereditary element in the tendency to develop eczema.

It eases as children get older, and a large number outgrow it completely, but that is not much comfort to the parent who has a sore, red, crying baby right now!

What Can I Do For My Baby’s Eczema?

There are many things that you can do to ease your baby’s eczema. Firstly, make sure your baby’s skin does not become too dry. You can find a very mild cream suitable for baby eczema to apply all over, immediately after bathing your baby. In the bath, do not have the water too warm and use a special mild soap. Ordinary soaps and lotions could irritate the skin.

Dress your baby in 100% cotton. Man-made fabrics can cause the skin to sweat, leading to more irritation. Avoid wool and anything that feels scratchy on the skin. Also, make sure that you always wash all the family’s clothes, bed sheets, towels, etc in a very mild detergent suitable for people with sensitive skin. Any time you hold your baby, he or she comes in contact with your clothes and could be affected by the detergent you are using.

Keep the house as clean as possible. Dust mites are very common in most households and hard to avoid if you have many rugs and carpets, but regular vacuum cleaning can help. Babies may also react to pollen, so you could try keeping flowers out of the house for a while. Animals are another common cause of irritation. If you have a pet, try to keep the house as  free as possible from their hairs.

Diet is often a factor and many parents switch their babies from cow’s milk products to soy because of eczema. Other foods may be irritating your baby’s system too. Ask your doctor if your baby can be tested for food intolerances. If you are breastfeeding, you will have to eliminate any foods your baby cannot tolerate from your own diet. But make sure that you and your baby are still getting all the nutrients that you need.

The final point is to stop the baby scratching, as that will only make him or her more uncomfortable. Keep your baby’s fingernails short and smooth, and have your baby wear cotton mittens and socks at all times to lessen the damage that scratching will do.

Finally, if it persists, do speak to your doctor about your baby eczema problem.

Baby Sleep Problems

If your little one is suffering from baby sleep problems, life can be very exhausting indeed. Sometimes it seems that baby just will not go to sleep, or not at any time when you can benefit from it. Try these tactics to help your baby to drop off to sleep quickly and peacefully.

Some babies will fall asleep to music. You could experiment with playing peaceful music quietly in the room. Many babies love being sung to, and a lullaby often works. You can also try reading repetitive stories or poems to the baby in a very calm voice, even if he or she is way too young to understand them.

Many babies feel secure when they are being rocked and you know how it can calm a baby to be walked around the room in your arms. Many babies will also fall asleep when they are walked in their stroller or driven in the car. It can be very frustrating to have baby sleep at these moments when you have no chance of sleeping yourself! But you could try putting baby in the stroller or the car and going for a very short trip.

You could also use a rocking crib for a newborn but look for one that can be fixed so it will not rock and only use the rocking facility when you need to. You do not want your baby to get used to it always moving when he or she moves. This would cause problems later when you want to transfer your growing child to a bed that does not rock.

Try not to transfer your anxiety about sleep to the baby. This can be hard to do when you are desperate for your child to doze off, but it is very important. The baby will feel your anxiety and associate it with sleep or nighttime, so that he or she becomes afraid to fall asleep or scared of the dark. This could cause sleep problems that continue long into childhood and even adulthood. Try to create the feeling that sleep is a pleasant and happy state to fall into and stay in, by keeping yourself as calm and happy as possible while you are trying to get your baby to sleep. Chill-out music may help you with your own emotional state.

If the current sleep routine that you are using is simply not working, consider making some changes either to the routine or to your lifestyle. You can try alternative times, have both parents put baby to bed together, change the baby’s feeding routine, walks, daytime naps or the time that you get up in the morning. Do not try to force your baby into a routine that only suits you – you may have a baby with a very different temperament to your own.

Finally, if these tips do not help, seek professional advice. It is important to know what is normal and what is not, and to get some help for serious baby sleep problems so that they do not affect your ability to care for your baby.
